There may be no coach with a more difficult task than that of Jim Tomsula for the upcoming campaign, as the San Francisco 49ers have gone through one of the more tumultuous offseasons in NFL history during his first year taking over for Jim Harbaugh.
The 49ers have lost talented players due to early retirement, including linebackers Patrick Willis and Willis’ replacement, Chris Borland. Aldon Smith was recently released after another run-in with law enforcement, and veterans Michael Crabtree and Frank Gore changed teams during the free agency period.
There’s no telling what this year’s 49ers team will look like during Tomsula’s first season, but one thing for certain is fans cannot wait to find out some answers for a franchise that is not too far removed from a Super Bowl appearance, not to mention multiple NFC Championship games. The first action will occur during the preseason, which has already begun with last Sunday night’s Hall of Fame Game.

Three of the four average ticket prices of 49ers games exceed the $100 mark, with two exceeding the $150 mark. This is one of the priciest sets of games for any NFL team during the preseason, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise given San Francisco’s rabid fanbase.
Their most expensive game is against the Denver Broncos on the road, with an average ticket price of $157.46 and a get-in price of $38. Week 3 may be the most valuable of the preseason slate, as the starters are projected to play the most minutes, although with Tomsula’s first season getting off to a rocky start, maybe they will find themselves on the field more than usual throughout all of the club’s exhibition games.
At home, the 49ers host the Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers. Tickets to see the Chargers and 49ers clash in a battle of California franchises are averaging $77.11 on the secondary market, and it is San Francisco’s least-expensive preseason game.
